Oster Food Steamer 5712
OK, I confess, I am able to be affected by folks hawking fitter eating devices. So on my Christmas list is a steamer / rice cooker. My obliging partner buys me a steamer of sorts, although it was a steamer / fryer! Not precisely what I were thinking of. So with his authorization, I took that one back and bought the Oster Food Steamer 5712 Rice Cooker. What’s in the box?
* The Oster Food Steamer 5712 Rice Cooker base unit holds the water. It is marked with two fill lines that are essentially used as a guide for how much water you want when steaming a range of items. There’s also a water inlet with the same measuring lines as in the inside that tells you how much water you have in there on the base.
* A removable heating component sleeve adjusts itself over the heating component of the Oster Food Steamer 5712 Rice Cooker in the middle of the base. When scaling builds up due to hard water on the heating element, it can later be cleaned by pouring three cups of vinegar in to the water reservoir up to the Hello level and turning the timer on for twenty mins without any of the other items on top of it including the drip tray.
* The drip tray fits next over the base. The tray catches the condensation from the food.
* two massive clear plastic steamer bowls with slotted bottoms for the steam to get thru are included.
The bowls hold a total of three quarts of food each and may be employed separately or together for multiple steaming of food items.
The bottom steamer bowl should be used to steam the biggest piece of food ( say fish on the bottom with vegetables on top. )
* The clear rice bowl fits within the steamer bowls. Make rice according to directions supplied with the rice.
( I really like to make rice with other flavorings like sliced onion and seasoning, so I do not use this for my rice. )
* The steamer lid is slotted to permit a specific quantity of steam to flee in the cooking of your food.
Some warnings :
* ensure you use your steamer away from cupboards or anything subject to warping from steam, this includes wallpaper. It can even make paper towels close by damp.
* When taking off the steamer lid, watch out to direct the steam away from your face and hands. It also would not hurt if you used potholders to avoid any likely burns.
* The Oster Food Steamer 5712 Rice Cooker produces steam immediately in 35 seconds.
So unless you are looking out for a face peel or drippy makeup, keep from hovering ott of it till you are prepared to serve. What’s steaming in the Oster Food Steamer 5712 Rice Cooker? * Well rice naturally. Try hard not to season it till after it’s cooked. Check for doneness at minimum time by stirring. * My favourite food to steam is vegetables. I like Broccoli! It’s still such a deep green compared against a dreary green when boiling or microwaving when cooked. Smaller pieces steam quicker than bigger ones, so trim off the stems if you do not eat them. A mean of twelve mins for roughly pound of broccoli is good. The maker advocates putting frozen vegetables in the rice bowl and covering with a chunk of tin foil and stirring to split after 10-12 mins. Experience has taught me to use maximum time on some veg dependent on thickness. Cauliflower takes more than broccoli. * If steaming beef and birds, confirm they’re fully unfroze before steaming them in the Oster Food Steamer 5712 Rice Cooker. * Like steamed clams? I know that I do. This is the way to do it, and quickly too! I plan to experiment with other fish shortly. Things good to grasp : When turning on the timer up to seventy five mins, a light will come on to indicate the steamer is warming. There’s also a mini-time guide next to the timer for a selection of foods. Clean up is straightforward with all of the plastic bowls in hot soapy water.
Don’t dunk the base though , sort of rough on the electric parts. I like my new kitchen contraption. I feel a feeling of satisfaction that i’m providing my folks fitter eating by steaming some of our meal. When time permits I plan to play around with a complete meal as there’s recipes available on their web site.
